Is Delta-8 THC Better Than Delta-9 THC?

Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) delta-9 is more potent than delta-8 and is the most commonly found cannabinoid in the cannabis plant. Delta-8-THC is approximately half as potent, and produces milder psychoactive effects than delta-9 THC. In terms of adverse effects, delta-8 and delta-9 differ in their intoxication potential and side effects. Delta-9 THC produces a stronger high, and thus carries a greater risk of overconsumption and adverse effects.

However, delta-8 users can also easily feel the effects of excessive consumption if they exceed their tolerance to THC. Delta 8 THC can provide medicinal benefits such as pain relief, anxiety reduction, inflammation reduction, and insomnia relief. Processors should consider that delta-9 THC by dry weight is impossible to measure in extracts and beverages, which can cause problems complying with federal standards. Proportionally, participants reported that the duration of effect was much longer with delta-9-THC (20%), slightly longer with delta-9-THC (27%), approximately equal (41%), slightly longer with delta-8-THC (8%) and much more with delta-8-THC (5%).

If you live in a state where you can safely buy and consume Delta 9 THC, then congratulations. More research is needed to isolate the psychoactive effects of Delta-8-THC and its potential therapeutic benefits, comparisons with drugs and other cannabinoids, as well as risks and adverse effects. A strong point of this study is that it is the first large survey of delta-8 users, the limitations include self-report data from a self-selected convenience sample.

Responses to items comparing the intensity and duration of delta-8-THC with delta-8-THC were examined by t-tests of a sample with a comparison value of 3 (“approximately equal”), effect sizes and 95% confidence intervals were calculated (see Fig.).THC and CBD interact with the body's endocannabinoid system and cannabinoid receptors (CB1 and CB2), producing a variety of effects such as pain relief, inflammation relief, stress relief, and sedation. A common side effect of delta-9 THC is hyperactivity, anxiety and paranoia, while delta 8 seems to be less likely to induce these effects while providing a pleasant high that makes food taste better, music sounds richer, and even the most mundane tasks more enjoyable. Due to the high concentration of delta-9 THC in marijuana plants, processors extract it more cost effectively from the biomass of female cannabis plants. To give you a level of comparison between delta 8 THC and delta 9 doses, THC delta 9 will produce very mild psychoactive effects with 2MG.
